At Interiors by Madeline, we believe that great design goes beyond aesthetics. It’s about crafting experiences. When we were brought on to design The Nest, a boutique hair salon within Heyday Collective in Cleveland, we saw an opportunity to blend sophistication with warmth, creating a space that feels both inspiring and effortlessly functional.

The Vision: A Haven for Creativity & Inspiration

The Nest is where coworking meets hair salon loft. Each stylist brings their own clientele, but it’s the shared sense of community that sets this space apart. Designed as a collective of creatives, The Nest was envisioned as a place where stylists can learn from one another, not just in honing their craft but in building their businesses, too.

As Maddie led the design, she focused less on the traditional client-facing experience and more on what the space could offer the artists working within it. The result is a salon that feels like a vibrant, layered sanctuary, filled with organic materials and texture; inviting, but full of movement and possibility. The design focus here was on creativity, connection, and inspiration.

We envisioned a modern yet inviting space, balancing natural materials, layered textures, and curated details to evoke a sense of calm. Every element, from the lighting to the layout, was chosen to enhance both the client experience and the workflow of the stylists.

Designing with Purpose: Materials, Textures & Functionality

One of the most exciting aspects of commercial interior design is the opportunity to push creative boundaries. For The Nest, we leaned into a soft, organic palette, incorporating elements like warm wood tones, sleek metal accents, and natural stone, while still incorporating in eclectic elements like wallpaper and velvet to create a refined yet welcoming aesthetic. The materials were selected not just for their beauty but for their durability; essential in a high-traffic environment like a salon.

Key Design Elements:

  • Custom millwork to add warmth and architectural interest

  • Soft, diffused lighting for a flattering, spa-like ambiance (the glass partitions throughout the different rooms allow light to filter into the center of the salon)

  • Strategic space planning to ensure a seamless stylist and client experience

  • Unique material combinations that add depth and character to the space (don’t forget to check out all the wallpaper in here!)

Every decision was made with functionality in mind, ensuring that the space would not only look stunning but also serve the needs of both clients and stylists for years to come.

A Seamless Blend of Form & Function

What sets Interiors by Madeline apart is our ability to balance thoughtful aesthetics with practical design solutions. In commercial projects like The Nest, it’s about more than just creating a beautiful space; it’s about designing a setting that enhances the way people interact with it daily. From the placement of the stations to the flow of movement throughout the salon, we ensured that every detail worked in harmony to create an effortless experience.
